Bio

I am the mother of four children ages 13, 11 & 4 years, along
with a 24 year old step-daughter.  My love of pregnancy and
birth began with my first pregnancy in 1997.  My husband and
I took The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth and hired a
wonderful doula who was instrumental to my successfully delivering our first baby, unmedicated, in the hospital
with a doctor.  Our second child was born in the hospital with a midwife and our third child was born at home with
a midwife.  Each experience brought me closer to my dream of becoming a doula.

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 2002.  I interned and worked at Carolinas
Medical Center as a Lactation Consultant from 2000-2007.  I am also an accredited La Leche League Leader
since 1999 currently leading the Charlotte South group which meets the fourth Thursday of each month.  Being
intricately involved in breastfeeding has been a wonderful way to be a part of the birthing process.  I believe that
they walk hand and hand.

Philosophy

Childbirth and motherhood are amazing and life changing events. Each woman should be supported in a way
that feels right to her.  I believe a woman’s body is created perfectly to give birth.  Pregnancy and childbirth are
normal and healthy states and not illnesses that need to be treated as such.  I believe all pregnant women
should have access to evidenced based information and be able to make informed choices as part of  her care
and the care of her child.  The mother and her partner are the central focus of childbirth, and that the doula
adds an extra layer of support that helps them through this beautiful event.  As a lactation consultant I feel that
breastfeeding is extension of the birthing event and an important aspect of the mother/baby relationship into the
future.
