Philosophy: Birth is a normal, sacred event that should be honored and protected.

Bio: I was born in 1953 in Florida, the 5th of 6 children.  A midwife attended my birth at Sacred Heart Hospital in
Pensacola Florida.  My Father was a career US Navy Pilot and Engineer.  My Mother was home full time, caring for
her large family. She was a gifted artist, in the creative arts of sewing, weaving, and knitting.  I grew up from 1960 –
1976 in Perth, Western Australia, my Mother’s hometown.  I attended Catholic Schools (St. Joachim’s and Mercedes
College) and Curtin University in Western Australia where I completed a BS in Nutrition and a Diploma in Dietetics.  I
have been married since 1980 and have 2 children (born at home with a doula and midwife) and one grand
daughter (born in a hospital, with the assistance of a doula).
I have worked as a dietitian in Australia and in Charlotte.  I have worked in Public Health, with the WIC program, in
Florida and Charlotte.  I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 1994, and re-certified by
exam in 2004.  I re-certified by continuing education in 1999 and 2009. I have been a long time volunteer activist for
peace and social justice.  I enjoy yoga,  playing  piano, vegetarian cooking, and organic gardening. I love all kinds
of music.
I currently serve as the full time NC WIC Region 3 Breastfeeding Coordinator (8 counties, including Mecklenburg).  I
work PRN as a lactation consultant at Presby Main on the postpartum floor.

How many births do you attend a year? 1 – I have not been actively working as a doula.  I did attend training
and attended a birth in 2008.  No births in 2009. I expect to limit my caseload for Doula services  to 6 births a year.

What hospitals do you attend births at? The birth I attended in 2008 was at Presby Main.  I have attended
several home births over the years. I provide breastfeeding support at CMC and Presby main.  I would prefer to
provide support at home births.  But I am willing to help at hospital births – where I know a doula is even more
needed.

How many prenatal and postpartum visits do you provide? I plan to provide an initial free introduction visit .  If
the family and I agree to work together, I will provide 2 prenatal visits and 2 postpartum visits.

Additional services: Breastfeeding support, Cooking, Childcare, Acudetox, Dog Walks
