Charlotte Doulas is a membership-based group of independent doulas. Our members vary in
their philosophies, levels of experience, their fee structures, and in the specific services they provide.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Membership in Charlotte Doulas is open to all doulas and aspiring doulas.
We recognize that, traditionally, the role of the doula has always been filled by lay women-- mothers, sisters,
female friends or other relatives-- so certification is not a prerequisite for membership.
JOIN CHARLOTTE DOULAS: Doulas and aspiring doulas who would like to join our group may contact Rena
Henson by phone at 803-324-7838, or by email at rena1695 @yahoo.com. For local doulas and aspiring
doulas, we also have a very active Yahoo e-group. You may request an invitation to join by contacting Rena.
MEDIA: Have a question about doulas? Need a quote from an expert? Media contacts are most welcome, and
reporters may use the contact information above to reach Rena Henson, our current group spokeswoman.
EVENTS FOR DOULAS/PARENTS: We hold monthly meetings for members and potential members, as well as
quarterly enrichment meetings. Watch our Happenings page for other events, including our regular "Meet The
Doulas" teas for expectant parents.
DOULA CARE IS FOR EVERYONE: Parents who would like a doula at their birth but feel they are financially
unable to have one are encouraged to please contact Rena Henson (rena1695 @yahoo.com). We have
doulas in our group that occasionally offer services for a reduced fee or work on a sliding fee scale. We also
have doulas that need certification births as part of their training and would be willing to provide services at low
cost.
