Bio: Hi, my name is Angela Hathaway. I am a CAPPA Trained Labor Doula
and Aviva Certified Childbirth Educator. I have three beautiful and amazing
children—Miranda (born in 2003), Emily (born in 2006), and Daniel (born in
2008). All three of my children were born via cesarean. One might think
that this would put me at a disadvantage to assisting a woman in labor...but
it is my cesareans that have ignited the fire within me. In fact, these
experiences have brought me to a place of great compassion and understanding for those who encounter
challenges during their pregnancy or birth as well as those who have had a previous cesarean. I am DEEPLY
PASSIONATE about the natural process of childbirth and am dedicated to empowering birthing women and
protecting their right and ability to have a beautiful birth experience that is as natural as she desires it to be.

Philosophy: I believe that all women deserve the feeling of empowerment, pride, and joy that come with
childbirth. I believe in helping parents learn about their choices and educating themselves on the risks and
benefits of common interventions. Every woman, every baby, and every birth is different and unique.
Therefore each family’s preferences, choices and decisions are to be respected and honored. I believe in
providing a calm, caring, and nurturing environment for a woman to labor peacefully and confidently.
I am huge advocate for VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I believe that women who have had a previous
cesarean should not have to ask for permission to use their vagina to birth their subsequent babies. I have
done extensive research on the safety and risks of VBAC and truly believe VBAC to be far safer for both
mother and baby than a repeat cesarean.
How many births do you attend? 12-15 per year
I serve women birthing in these hospitals: Any location within 1 hour driving distance of south Charlotte,
including home and birth center births.
How many prenatal and postpartum visits do you provide? Free consultation, 1-2 prenatal visits, up to 2
postpartum visits, and 24 hour phone/email support
Additional Services: Birth photography, bellycasting, childbirth hypnosis, childbirth education classes, VBAC
education classes, early pregnancy classes, and private/customized classes.
Is there any other information pertinent to your doula work? I have also worked with teens, single
mothers, adoption (relinquishing mothers and adoptive couples), and surrogate families, same sex couples,
and planned cesarean births.
