Bio: I am a stay-at-home mom to a bright-eyed and sociable two-year-old boy. My first peek into childbirth came in 2006 when a relative began sharing with me about her midwifery training. I was so intrigued; I would daydream about working as a midwife instead of the financial analyst job I had held since college graduation. Soon after that inspirational time I became pregnant with my son. My husband and I educated ourselves about childbirth as much as we could, attended a wonderful Bradley childbirth class, and planned a homebirth. Despite a change in those plans after a long and challenging labor, I felt very loved and supported and amazed at the miracle of childbirth. My son’s birth offered me the opportunity to grow through changed plans, accepting help from others, receiving grace, and witnessing first-hand the profoundly empowering impact of childbirth. Now I am passionate about empowering and encouraging mothers through labor support during their own birth experiences. I am currently pursuing birth doula certification through DONA (Doulas of North America).
Philosophy: Each birth has a profound impact on the mother. It has the potential to either strengthen a woman or harm her, depending on how she was made to feel during labor and birth. My goal is to help empower each woman through her birth experience by providing emotional, physical, and informational support. Education is essential to remove much of the fear surrounding childbirth, and I am a huge advocate of making informed choices. I believe that a woman’s body was specially designed to give birth. Aside from medical complications, I believe that every woman has the power to give birth naturally, without other interventions. However, I understand that this is not the goal of every mother and I will support you to the best of my ability if you choose to utilize other available techniques. I also understand that sometimes things do not go as planned and perhaps intervention becomes necessary as a result of medical complications. I will fully support you throughout the beautiful birth of your child because I know from personal experience that changes in plans can be especially challenging emotionally. As part of the birth team, I will make every effort to understand and support the mother’s goals and work to bring those desires to fruition. My presence will complement the support received from your other loved ones, not replace it, so that your child’s birth will be fulfilling and empowering for you.
