Tranings/Certifications: Currently in training with Childbirth International (CBI) to become a Certified Labor Doula (CD)
Bio: I grew up in a home that looked at pregnancy as a natural process, not as a medical condition. Breastfeeding was the norm, as was natural childbirth. I knew that as women, we were made to give birth, and what an amazing ability that it was. I met and married my husband 10 years ago, and we decided to relocate from Florida to North Carolina about 4 years ago, and we have loved living here. We have three wonderful children, all of which I had 100% naturally (two in free-standing birth centers, and one with a midwife in our local hospital) and I breastfed all three of them. I really hope I can become a successful doula and maybe one day transition into midwifery.
Philosophy: I have always been interested in childbirth, especially after having 3 children of my own. I believe it is one of the most incredible experiences a mother and father can ever have. Unfortunately, many mothers have had a negative experience with their baby’s birth. There are many reasons that this can happen: unexpected complications, lack of support, feelings of being overwhelmed or frightened. The birth of a baby should not be this way! It should be a time of joy and excitement, even if things don’t go exactly as we might have planned. As a doula, my goal is to support pregnant mothers and their partners before, during, and after labor. I want to support any birth preferences or options (natural birth, induced labor, pain-free options, and cesarean sections). I will also provide support to single mothers and those placing their baby in an adoptive home. No matter what our experience, every woman has the right to the best and most supportive birth possible.
How many births do you attend a year?
I serve women birthing in these hospitals: I will work with clients in Catawba County and surrounding areas (Statesville, Lincolnton, Taylorsville, etc).
How many prenatal and postpartum visits do you provide? 2 prenatal, 1 postpartum ( I can do 1 extra postpartum visit for breastfeeding support if necessary).
Additional Services: As a mom who has breastfed three children, I can attest to having and surviving every nursing complication you can think of. I want to help new moms with these complications, and encourage them not to give up, even if difficulties arise.
Is there any other information pertinent to your doula work? Even though I am still a doula-in-training, I do have experience in working with friends during their pregnancies, and also watching and observing wonderful support during my own three labors. I am willing to work for reduced rates while awaiting certification.
