Trainings/Certifications: Certified Birth Doula (ALACE/To-Labor);
Certified Childbirth Educator (Aviva Institute); Child Passenger
Safety Technician.
Bio: While attending college in 2001, I supported a friend during her birth.
From that amazing experience, I decided to become a birth doula. Next I
certified as childbirth educator, teaching private evening and weekend
classes. I am also a Child Passenger Safety Technician, qualified to check
car seat installation.
Personally, I have four children born in various birth environments: twin boys born in a hospital; a girl born at a
birth center; and a girl born at home..
Philosophy: I believe that birth is normal and safe. I fully endorse
evidence-based care for pregnancy and birth, including Lamaze International's Six Care Practices That Support
Normal Birth. However, I also believe in the judicious use of medical intervention.
How many births do you attend? Between 10 and 20 per year. Typically one to two births per month.
I serve women birthing in these hospitals: Any in the CMC network; Lake Norman Regional; Gaston County;
Piedmont (Rock Hill); and the Carolina Community Maternity Center. Note: I do not attend births in the
Presbyterian system.
How many prenatal and postpartum visits do you provide? One free consultation in your home. When you
hire me, I provide two prenatal visits and one postpartum visit.
Additional Services: Car seat installation and examination; belly-casting; childbirth education; post-partum
availability; experience with twin moms and BFAR (breastfeeding after a reduction) moms.
