Philosophy:  I believe that birth is one of the most amazing, life changing processes a woman can experience
and go through.  I think that education is empowering and that the more a woman knows about her body and
about the birth process, the better choices she can make for herself and her baby.  I believe that birth is normal
and safe, but that most women don’t become informed enough to know that.  I want to support, encourage, and
empower women to have the birth they want.  My goal is to be an advocate for the mother, to provide emotional
and physical support, to provide knowledge, and to do this without interfering with the important role of the
husband or birth partner in the process.

Bio: I am married with 3 young children.  I first became interested in birth when I attended a friend’s birth before I
had children of my own.  It was a hospital birth with lots of interventions.  I remember thinking that there must be
a better way.  When I was pregnant with my first I took natural childbirth classes which helped me realize and
begin to trust that my body was made to give birth and to nourish my child.  My first daughter was born naturally
in a birth center in San Diego.  When I was pregnant with my second I had already begun to teach childbirth
classes of my own and had a passion for teaching other women.  My son was born via cesarean at a hospital in
San Diego.  That was heartbreaking for me, but in the long run has helped me become a better teacher, labor
supporter and helped others to avoid the situation I was put in.  My third was then born after much research,
thought, and prayer at home and it was an amazing, healing, beautiful birth.  I learned through it all that every
birth is different, and I think that my experiences have helped me to empathize with and support women in many
different circumstances.  It has also given me a heart for women who are attempting VBAC’s and a hope that
someday I will be a homebirth midwife myself.
