Trainings/Certifications: AAHCC, CLD, CLD-T, CLE

Bio: I am first and foremost the mother of two wonderful children.  It was
the birth of my own children that sent me down this path of childbirth
education and labor support. I began my training and certification as a
childbirth educator early in 2001, at which time I was a student teacher.
I became fully certified in January 2003.  I then began the process of
certification as a labor doula.  However, I had already been providing
labor support since 2002.  I became fully certified in 2005.  I am also a
certified lactation educator with CAPPA.  Since beginning my journey in
childbirth as a Bradley teacher and labor doula, I have worked with many
different families during their pregnancy and labors. These births have
included some very long, difficult labors; short, intense labors; unplanned
and scheduled cesareans; and successful VBACs.  I have provided
support for both un-medicated and medicated births.  I currently serve as a Labor Doula Trainer for CAPPA.

Philosophy: I believe that given the evidence, most women would choose to have an un-medicated birth.  I
believe that given the proper education and support it is a goal that most women can achieve.  It is something
that is done in almost all other parts of the world.  Unfortunately, the United States lives in a state of "cultural
warping of childbirth," where women's belief in their own inherent ability to give birth naturally has been robbed of
them due to over-medicalization of birth and an unrealistic view of birth as portrayed in movies, magazines and
television.  I do believe there is a time and place for every intervention and am thankful for the availability of
these technologies when they are needed.  It is the idea of "give me the epidural in the parking lot" and without
true informed consent that I take issue.
