Philosophy:  My heart is to provide an "extra set of hands" that serve the mother and her
support person(s) in the journey that happens during the birth experience.  Empowering the
mother-to-be to both communicate her needs and feel supported in her choices is a huge part of
this.  Another very vital part is standing by and encouraging the dad/partner through this
journey.  I want to be a resource of information and encouragement, but not a crutch.  I believe
that when both have the right and responsibility to be fully informed regarding the choices we
can make.  This is especially important in the process of birth.  When a woman is encouraged
with the spoken truth about her own ability in birth she is empowered.  When this is followed up
with support for both the woman and her primary support person, they can make the choices that
are right for their birth experience, as well as the postpartum transition.  Having seen moms in
action during the birth, it is a profound and wonderful thing to watch as a family is born.  My
position is one of comfort and support without preconceived expectation or judgment.

Bio: I am originally from Oregon and have lived in Charlotte for 8 years now.  I have more than
15 years' experience working with children and families as a childcare provider, Red Cross
certified swim instructor and for the last 7 years as a nanny.  I have worked within a single parent
home, newborn twins, and most recently in a home with a set of twins, one of which has special
needs.  I am transitioning into this new season of my life as one who is herself giving birth to
something new, but long waited for.  I hope this will add to my level of compassion and care for
those I serve.
