Trainings/Certifications:  DONA trained doula, lactation

Bio:  I have spent many hours reading and researching
pregnancy and childbirth.  Based on all that I had learned, I choose to give birth to my daughter
at home
in 2004.  Since then I have continued to study and learn everything I can on many
parenting topics, especially birth.  Prior to my own birth, I was with my best friend when she
delivered her son at home.
In October of 2008 I gave birth to my son at home.  These events
helped me to understand the role of doulas and the importance of this work.   I feel that teaching
and working with women during pregnancy, birth and postpartum is my gift and my purpose.  I
live
near Stanley, NC and will be working a 40-mile radius.  I am looking forward to supporting
women to achieve the birth they want.

Philosophy:  I believe birth is a natural, normal process and that we are designed to carry, birth
and feed our children.  I think education is the key to overcoming fears about birth.  A part of the
doula's role is to help families gather the information needed to make informed, confident
choices and to provide non-judgmental support.   I believe a woman should be able to choose
how, where and with whom she wants to labor.  Women's bodies, spirit and what is done to her
physically and emotionally during her pregnancy and birth matters.  I believe women deserve to
be treated with respect and dignity at all times and especially during the labor and delivery of her
child.  Women remember birth experiences for the rest of their lives.  It should be a pleasant,
cherished memory.  The experience of birth should leave you feeling empowered and confident.
