Trainings/Certifications:  DONA Certified Birth Doula, Certified
Hypnodoula, lactation training, experienced breastfeeding mom

Bio: My husband and I moved from upstate New York to Charlotte shortly
after we were married, and have remained to raise our family here. We took
Bradley childbirth classes while expecting our first child, and from the
beginning I knew I would feel most comfortable and safe staying at home to
have my baby. Giving birth was the most beautiful and empowering
experience of my life.  I went on to have six more children, all born happily at
home. When my oldest daughter was expecting her own first baby, she asked
me to assist at her birth.  This is when I started looking into what it means to
be a doula. I loved being with my daughter as she became a mother, one woman to another offering comfort and
encouragement. So I went on to complete my doula training with DONA(Doulas of North America) in November
2006. Since then, I have also taken the full 12-week Bradley childbirth class series again, taken a full
HypnoBabies childbirth class series, and have been certified with special training as a hypnodoula.

My own births have given me confidence in the beautiful design of the birth process, and through my doula
experience I have become familiar with the medical model of birth and learned to navigate the interventions and
procedures commonly encountered in hospital births. I now attend births at all Charlotte area hospitals, and I
especially love to help at home births!

Philosophy:  I wish that every woman could understand and look forward to the empowerment and beauty of
giving birth. Your body is perfectly designed to carry, birth, and nurture your child. You can do this best in an
environment, whether it be at home or in the hospital, that supports and respects you, so you feel safe and
protected and can allow your body to work as it is designed to.  I will come alongside you in labor to comfort you
both emotionally and physically, and provide informational support about the course of labor and your options.
My desire is to help you enjoy your birth and have a satisfying memory to cherish for the rest of your life.
